Cincinnati’s Wussy bring their own signature brand of Ohio noise rock to the Woodward Theater for their first full-band headlining show in over four years. They’ll be debuting some new material, as well as reviving some of the old. Joining them will be special guests The Chris Brokaw Rock Band - featuring Chris Brokaw (Come, Codeine), Clint Conley (Mission of Burma) and Luther Gray.
Wussy are back with their first LP in six years. The aptly titled Cincinnati Ohio - out November on Shake It Records - is the first album from the five-piece since 2018’s What Heaven Is Like. Wussy are known among critics and their loyal fanbase for releasing albums of lyrically deft pop songs awash within a blanket of noise - a sound that critic Robert Christgau has described as “merging the Velvet Underground and the Flying Burrito Brothers” (SPIN, 2013). And it seems Cincinnati Ohio is no exception - punctuated with many of the familiar Wussy sounds: a jangly mix of electric and acoustic guitars; the dueling lead vocals of Chuck Cleaver and Lisa Walker; Joe Klug and Mark Messerly’s driving rhythm section; and warm rolling waves of pedal steel - this time split between late Wussy guitar player John Erhardt and newest member Travis Talbert. On Cincinnati Ohio, the band leans heavily into its penchant for cinematic Americana landscapes, drawing stylistic inspiration from influences such as Calexico, Mazzy Star, R.E.M., Sun Volt, and the Mekons (whose Jon Langford painted the album’s cover art). This Midwestern wall-of-sound method clearly works for Wussy, who according to The Ringer, has been “quietly crafting one of the great rock catalogs of the decade.”
Cincinnati Ohio comes out November 15th, along with two limited edition Wussy EPs: The Great Divide and Cellar Door. Get the new album one week earlier at The Woodward Theater on November 9.

About WUSSY:
Cincinnati CityBeat: “A sort of Americana-tinged My Bloody Valentine.. The band's imminent eighth studio album of new material [is] quite possibly their best album yet.”
NPR: “Few bands since the Velvet-steeped heyday of the Feelies, Yo La Tengo and R.E.M. have abandoned themselves so completely to the ebbing, flowing currents of keening, droning guitars.”
Wussy are one of the most celebrated independent bands in the American Midwest, a group whose idiosyncratically thoughtful songs and atmospheric, forceful guitar attack have won them a fervent cult following and a growing stack of rave reviews. Built around the sweet and sour mix of vocalists Lisa Walker and Chuck Cleaver, Wussy came together in 2001 when the two singers and songwriters casually performed together at an event in their native Cincinnati, Ohio, and soon the duo expanded into a full band. In 2005, Wussy released their debut album, Funeral Dress, and while they toured and recorded at a casual pace, between excellent reviews and positive word of mouth, albums like 2009's Wussy, 2011's Strawberry, and 2014's Attica! found an audience as the band began to edge out of the indie rock underground towards the boundaries of mainstream recognition.
